IN THE ROLLING GREEN VALLEYS OF KING COUNTRY

Our promise to feed and look after our pigs well is made good by the advantages of our location combined with the passion we put into our breeding and care.

Situated in the rolling green valleys of the King Country, in southern Waikato, our farm has an abundance of space, rainfall and sunshine. It’s a healthy place to raise any livestock and our prized Duroc pigs revel in it.

Building on our own and wider industry experience, we applied scientific and on-farm research over the years. Today, with the involvement of local and international experts in everything from genetics to nutrition, we’ve perfected a very special way to raise the pigs we care for at Waratah Farm.

GOOD FOR THE PIGS AND THE ENVIRONMENT

We ensure our pigs experience the things they love about the outdoors, like rootable surfaces (we use sawdust), sunlight and fresh air. Open-air barns leave them free to roam in large groups, play with toys and experience some desirable natural elements, while providing shelter and a healthy diet. This also allows us to collect and manage all the waste, preventing it from flowing into the beautiful neighbouring streams and protecting the farm’s soil quality

“ONLY FARM THE WORLD’S BEST BREED OF PIG, FEED THEM WELL, LOOK AFTER THEM WELL AND THE MEAT WILL ALWAYS BE SUPERIOR.”

REGENERATIVE FARMING

The pig waste is turned into compost for use as a natural fertiliser and organic matter to grow grass and crops. It’s a practice known as regenerative farming, and it includes some interesting additions to the pigs’ diet, with the blessing of our dedicated animal nutritionist. Things like ice cream and cheese discarded from the human food chain that would otherwise go to landfill. Cue some very happy pigs.

Having raised our pigs so well we only use trusted local abattoirs for processing, then we chiefly supply butchers and other outlets across New Zealand’s central North Island. Though for all of you elsewhere craving some delicious Waratah Farm pork we do have some good news…
